I pride myself in playing two musical instruments--the flute and the violin. Of course, I don't play them well. (LOL)
Ohh! I just noticed this. Such wonderful instruments to know how to play!
I've neglected them since I took up the medical coding, but I hope to get back to them. The viola is a little hard on the nerves because the sound is right next to your ear, and there is a vibration. But, I'm learning for my pleasure--not for those who have to listen to me (LOL).
I'd never thought of how some instruments might be hard on the ear, being so close. In that way others listening might enjoy it more. But it's great to be able to enjoy it just for one's self too! My dad has always wanted me to take violin, but so far it hasn't happened. In one post you called it a violin and in the other viola. I'm not at home (where we have a big symphony instrument chart on the wall) so am curious which that is that you're playing.
What happened is that I ordered a violin from JCPenny. Several years later, I'm trying to tune the thing after not playing it for quite a while. I couldn't get the sounds to match. It was too low. My mom then suggested to try the tuning sounds for a viola, which is lower than a violin. That is when I realized that I had a viola, not a violin. Still, because that is what I thought I ordered, I still sometimes refer to it as a violin. I'm glad it isn't actually. A viola is lower than a violin, and even that can be hard on my nerves. But I hope to resume it again.
That's interesting. I don't think one hears the viola as much, apart from an orchestra context. I'd love to hear its sound solo. So have you taught yourself?
Yeah. I don't know if I'm doing it correctly.
I admire people teaching themselves instruments.
Thanks. I'm not sure if the people listening to them feel the same way. (LOL)
