mujhe wida kar (Say goodbye to me)
Say goodbye to me/ Oh my self, again say farewell/ What would those people say, oh my self/ Those who, for a thousand years have yearned for my words.
Say goodbye to me/ With you I have, in the cave of my own self/ Had enough of refuge/ I have warmed my hands and feet/ By the fire of my own heart.
Say goodbye to me/ So that I may hear the silence of the mirrors of the tears of clay and water/ May hear the sad greetings of life and death/ So that I may hear of the extinction of the hands and feet of days and nights.
Say goodbye to me...

  1. Kafka's Crow
An excerpt from a minor poem by Noon Meem Rashid. The metaphor of 'the mirror of clay and water' finds its full expression in the series of poems called 'Hassan the Potter' where they reappear as pottery, the expression of the humble art of a distracted artisan. The pieces of these pots are discovered by archaeologists in the final part of 'Hassan th Potter' where art becomes the 'silent scream of time' defying death, history and destruction.

Noon Meem Rashid was one of the founders of the Progressive Movement in Urdu Literature. Called a 'poets' poet' his extremely intricate works deal with the themes of the artistic inspiration, creativity, oppression, freedom, time, free will, evolution and change.

I don't know much about Urdu writing but this caligraphy is so lovely - and so artistic. I love it. I will come back soon to view all your photos and to read this poem, as well. Your album is very nice indeed.
