bust of nefertiti
I have always loved this. She must have been an amazing woman. The bust is beautiful and so elegant.
Painted limestone, Nefertiti was Akhenaten's principal wife, even though, presumably for diplomatic reasons, he also had Mittani and Babylonian wives. Nefertiti was given artistic prominence and was important in Akhenaten's sun cult. the blue crown in this sculpture is unique to her..
I believe we have a copy of this in a museum here. I like the fact she was part of Akhenaten's sun cult. I saw a whole documentary on both of them and the sun cult ideology...very interesting.
The original is in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, right? I have seen it, and I also have a painting (on papyrus, no less) of it hanging in my living room.
