    I wanted her to get together with Bounderby! She seemed to be the only woman that he loved and respected.

    But didn't he only admire her for her posh background? She was a trophy to him. He liked to think of himself having risen from the gutter by his own talents. The thought that he could afford to employ a woman of her background as a housekeeper appealed to his vanity.
