    Books similar to Dracula...

I'm currently re-reading Dracula (one of my favourite novels) and would love some ideas of what else to read in a similar vain.

It isn't so much the vampire aspect of the novel that appeals, although I do like the supernatural element, but the more gothic elements and Stoker's writing style (one of the most accessible I've read from a 19th Century author) that I really enjoy.

Would Frankenstein be worth a read?

    Any ideas?

Perhaps you would like 'Carmilla', by Sheridan Le Fanu. It is a 19th-century novel with a female vampire which predated Dracula.

Colin by E.F. Benson of Mapp and Lucia fame is a good, fun gothic novel.

Yes of course Frankenstein great novel. You could also try the The Picture of Dorian Gray, Jekyll and Hyde and The Wild Asses Skin by Balzac as the most obvious from there, but all great works. You could also try some earlier gothic works, how about The Monk or The Castle of Ortranto??
