in fairness to Louis the XIII, he wasn't the one who sent Philippe to the Bastille, we have the Prime Minister Mazarin to thank for that. By the time Philippe discovered that letter and, consequently, his true identity and birthright, rule of France was under the regency... In fact, I believe Anne of Austria deserves a big share of the blame!

Could we stop talking about the Count of Monte Cristo? I agree, it was my favorite book and it is clearly better than The Man In the Iron Mask, but come on people. And as to why Aramis told Foquet, I believe that Aramis's alternative motive was to get Froquet out of hot water with the king (for we know that even though Froquet was ruining himself to please him, the King is still furious). Naturally, Froquet knows his own situation with the king. I think that Aramis knew that if he did not tell Froquet, Froquet would have found it odd that the King was being nice to him and expose him for the fraud that he is. But I have to say, don't you guys think that Louis XIII was pretty evil? I mean, he locked up one of his sons just to avoid political complications.
