Think about the fact that Henry is merely 3 or 4 years older than you and think what you would do in his situation. The point of the novel is to show how pointless war (at least our Civil War in America) is. Think about the fact that the killings in this war are all Americans and how that would make you feel. After that you should be able to get into it.
This book so far is very confusing. I can't really get in to it. I am in the 7th grade and I'm not a bad reader and I still don't get it. If you are in college, I consider you read it though because it describes war very well. But for younger children, it is a very confusing setting. It switches back and forth between different peoples perspectives.
