Don John frames Hero by taking Claudio to Hero's window - where Borachio and Margaret dressed as Hero are. Claudio sees Margaret thinking it is Hero and therefore believes Don John when he says Hero is sleeping around. When Beatrice cannot vouch for being with Hero that night it seems there is no proof to say it wasn't Hero at the window!

I am upset that nothing has been said about beatrice's confession in Act 4 Scene I that she had not been in bed with Hero the night before-- as she had been every night of the last year. What is the reason behind this discrepency that leads to the framing of Hero? Please help me figure this out!!

    Lightbulb Beatrice's response

She couldn't say anything. Once Hero became engaged she could no longer share a bed. Hero wasn't in the room, but Beatrice couldn't say anything because neither was she. Hope that helps...
