The winner of the 2011 Christmas Poetry Contest is
    A Christmas Walk
    By Haunted

    a Christmas walk

    heavy
    brown
    boots
    red
    laced up
    boots
    they sink straight down
    into a foot of snow
    though not the same depth

they tread close to the creek
    adorned with floating ice
    brown boots bracing red boots
    careful not to fall in
    while trees with bare arms
    diligently stand guard

    further down
    three stately pines
    overlook a covered bridge
    where the boot prints
    disappear

    out of earshots
    of the winter wrens
    and the prying eyes
    of the white birth

    brown boots sweep
    red boots off the ground
    ties falling loose
    and so without a whisper
    the walk is quietly adjourned

    Congrats to the winner!
I'll try to write one for next year, in the putative case that I still breathe by then

Congratulations, Haunted! I liked the last stanza when the brown boots picked the red boots off the ground.

Thank you Qim for the contest!

thanks thanks thanks thanks and thanks
to those who voted for a Christmas walk

Also my appreciation to Max and cacian for the kind words.
y/n, so glad you enjoyed it.

I was inspired by a Christmas card I received, so half the credit goes to the artist.

    With this beautifully drawn scene
    I wish everyone
a winter filled with warmth from loved ones.

"But do you really, seriously, Major Scobie," Dr. Sykes asked, "believe in hell?"
    "Oh, yes, I do."
    "In flames and torment?"
"Perhaps not quite that. They tell us it may be a permanent sense of loss."
"That sort of hell wouldn't worry me," Fellowes said.
"Perhaps you've never lost anything of importance," Scobie said.

Congrats Haunted! It is a beautiful poem indeed.

I could not vote because I was mostly offline last month. So sorry to miss this poll.
