I've rethought it and decided I don't like book clubs. Having anyone else depend on my doing something, or having a deadline, makes it detestable to me; I think I've read less since I registered here than at any other point in my life.

well, i see what you are both saying (literally hehe) and to a certain extent i feel the same way. the thing i like about it, however, is that i am reading books i may have negected to on my own. for example: i would have never read p&p all the way to the end, had it not been for amuse.
i just feel bad because the book i vote for (um..this one) won by only one vote, and now i fear that i may not be able to participate, as i received my uni courses and have MUCHO reading to do for them first.....

Well, I didnt vote at all, so I can hardly complain. I just tried to read the first chapter, but I find historical stuff like that really boring, so I dont think I will bother this month either.I wonder if anyone is gonna read The Black Tulip?
Even you guys are think like that.. I'm worse than you. I have to look up the dictionary so many times and I don't even have the background knowledge about the author or the book itself. Yes, you might say it's a fiction so just learn it while reading it. Then again, reading a whole new work is a quite tough job.
Too many royal families name of Holland, and this new writer, very famous for his abundance of novels and other works, yet it's true I'm unacquainted with him.
But after all this, I'm happy to be able to know a new things. It's boring and hard at first but I think I'll keep trying.
Hmm..and I voted for 'The Razor's Edge' because I read Somerset Maugham's other works and liked them very much. But I don't mind reading another book. Like someone said before, I can read at least once a month with people here, since I graduated university, this kind of online forums is only way for me to express myself after reading classical and great books. Oh, and I'm on chapter 6 now. But I guess it will take a long time to summarize it all together. @.@

Man, I actually read "P&P" but like no discussion insued. I like this site, though, books I would have overlooked in the past I have read now. I would read this months, but I still have to track it down.

I finished the book. After the first couple of chapters it got better (to me, that is). In the middle there I actually couldn't put it down.
