All Around the Earth

As I sit and watch the T.V.,
My eyes fill with tears,
I wonder and I contemplate,
Upon all of my fears.
I feel for the people, but,
Can't understand their pain,
Knowing that they'll never,
See their loved ones again.

You see it in the movies,
Where they celebrate victory,
Then it happens to you,
And you think, why did God choose me?
As I watched and saw the pictures,
Unfold before my eyes,
I turn and see my mother,
As she sits down and cries.

The sky was painted black,
And full of choking soot,
The buildings growing unstable,
With every unstable foot.
As debris filled the streets,
And people ran in fright,
The day was just beginning,
But as the darkest night.

The week before it happened,
No one thought it would,
Then they suddenly realised,
What couldn't happen could.
The news hit the headlines,
And travelled round the earth,
Because no one really knew,
What each life was worth.

Many, many people,
Died that tragic day,
But I want you to remember,
That help is on the way.
So if you're feeling down,
Or wondering about your worth,
Just remember there's people to help,
All around the earth.

I wrote this poem in high school just after September 11th. I pray that anyone who lost a loved one during that terrible tragedy with find comfort in knowing that people across the world are thinking and praying for them.

You're so kind person.
I'm sorry for that tragedy and doubled sorry that it was done by evil men who're trying to hide their terrorist personality under the meaning of Islam. If I belong to this religion I know that there isn't anything in Islam that allows to kill innocent people.

Luckily I didn't know anyone who was hurt. My uncle worked in the Pentagon, but not anywhere near the part that was hit. So on that day I just felt numb and fascinated with what I was seeing. After a while, though, it started to sink in and my predominant emotion since then has been, "now I understand better what people in other parts of the world go through every day." Now when buildings are blown up in Iraq and Israel and Palestine, and I see it on the news, it seems more real than it used to. I always knew it was an awful thing, but now I *feel* how awful it is. I think it's one of the most important lessons I've learned, and it's important to remember when it happened in New York. Not to keep stirring the coals of vengeful feelings, like the president wants, but to see that day in the eyes of every stranger on the news when it's done to them -- over and over again.

a friend of mine lost a nephew. my dad's fire dept received a lot of flowers.
i wish natural tragedies like the tens of thousands dead from earthquakes in iran, mexico, and elsewhere in the world got this kind of poetry too...
i was scared for my boyfriend that morning; his school is in southwest p.a., an hour away from pittsburgh..
