We live only to discover beauty. All else is a form of waiting.
I have read only one book by Gide, La Porte Etroite (in the original French). I did not find it particularly exciting. I prefer François Mauriac. I also have Les Caves du Vatican sitting on my bookshelf but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
I like André Gide - especially Paludes and Le voyage d'Urien.
I have some more of his books in my shelf, but unfortunately not yet read.
Greetings
I have read, "The Immoralist"-was a good book, and given the fact that the lead character is a pederast, it was way ahead of its time. "Strait is the Gate" is also in my reading list, though Gide's autobiographical works also look interesting.
The cradle rocks above an abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness.-Vladimir Nabokov
human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we tap crude rhythms for bears to dance to, while we long to make music that will melt the stars-Flaubert
