I also had to read this book for school. however i did not enjoy it because oi could not really get into it. please would somebody explain to me hoe the character of Mary changes throughout the novel and why they think that hodgson burnett has included such a transformation.

I am a Hungarian woman and reading books on foreign languages is sometimes a difficult but challenging task. The Secret Garden is not just a book that is easy to read but also a book that takes me back into my childhood and although I am an adult now, it reminds me of those oh-so-sweet days which I want to remember all my life. Every time I read the book I discover something new in the story and something really old and forgotten in my childhood. This book would be on my desert island top-ten-list.

musical

Yes, the musical is based on the book, although there is some liberty taken. For instance, although many of the characters die of the cholera in the prologue, they appear as ghosts or memories or dreams throughout the play. The music is very very beautiful and I highly recommend the show to anyone who enjoyed the book! The musical can be purchased through Barnes and Noble at the following site: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/bookSearch/isbnInquiry.asp?sourceid=00002218955900849226&ISBN =155936047X&bfdate=04-14-2003+16:29:23

secret garden

It is not the best book I have read so far. The best books I like are by Jacqueline Wilson.
