Dickens Recomendations

I have not really read any Dickens. The only story by his that I have read was Great Expectations, and that was a long time ago, some time before highschool, and it was assigend reading for school. I recall I liked the story, though I do not remeber much about his acutal writing. So I am not sure yet just how I feel about Dickens and I would like to read more of his work.

What works would you recomend to soemone new to Dickens?

I have always admired his Tale of Two Cities, which takes place during the French Revolution. In many ways, I think it is one of his best novels.

I acutally enjoy reading about the French Revolution. I find it an interesting subject. I will add that one to my list.

My favorite book by Dickens would have to be Hard Times. Dickens was a master of description, and the way he paints this book will give you shivers.

It's one of his later works, so it lacks the optimism of, say, Oliver Twist, but it's definitely worth reading if you have the time.

David Copperfield is good and funny but it is very long.

It depends on what kind of problems you are interested in. For disfunctional families--read Domby and Son, Hard Times. For estate problems Martin Chezelwick. Legal problems Bleak House. Crime and Poverty--Oliver Twist. For adventure, romance, and heroics--my favorite--Nicholas Nickelby.
