the political situation in The Prince
My question is, what were the political situations, which prompted Machiavelli to write the Prince? its hard to decipher. I mean, I know that at the time, Italy was humiliated because so many others from foreign countries were coming in and ruling their states. but what were the problems besides that?

By his dedication I atually think his motivation for writing the Prince in truth was to suck up and to but out his opinion on the subject. From what I gather he wrote it specifically for Lorenzo Di Piero De' Medici like an advice book. It was more of a two cents type of book rather then the country is in trouble and I think this will help
