I like how the book starts out, the first three sentences-<br><br>"I am a sick man...I am a spiteful man. I am an unpleasant man. I think my liver is diseased."<br><br>it's a great opening.

Yes. I agree totally. Before I read those opening lines I was anticipating a dull, monotonous novel which churned out intellectual sentences but had no humour or feeling. The beginning changed my mind instantly.
