    Said was an angry man, justifiably perhaps, but it always seemed to me like he nursed his grudges, rather than sought to move beyond them.

    Hmm, I would disagree. He seems perhaps disgruntled by the turning of events in his life, mainly politics, but to me he seems to have been quite optimistic, even in his politics he seems to have had a great peace about him. that seems like a pretty low Ad hominem of which I would be reluctant to make. True, he was known for antics against such authors as V. S. Naipaul, but at the same time, he would seem to have been a great champion of human artistic creativity and culture, and a general sense of world reconciliation and understanding.
