I don't understand how O'Brien can read Winston's mind when he is questioning him. Is it because O'Brien is the "Thought Police" or is the Thought Police not even real? And if the Thought Police isn't real, then how can he still read Wonston's mind while he is questioning him? O'Brien can just simply read minds?
No, he can't read Winston's mind.
He does, however, have many years of experience in breaking people and knows what to expect.
O'Brien knows all about what Winston is thinking, due to watching him over the telescreens for seven years, as it is stated. He also read his diary, and knows exactly how Winston feels about Big Brother and the Party.
