Is Measure For Measure Set In London?

Although, Shakespeare set measure for measure in Vienna, the morality and society within the setting are similar to those which were present in Shakespeare's London. Therefore, the setting is loosely based on the society in, which Shakespeare was living. (Elizabethan London) Anyway, to say that measure for measure is not based on London in some ways is absurd. It is unlikely that Shakespeare would have visited Vienna and researched its society, it is more widely accepted that Shakepeare chose to set his plays in Vienna (includes Taming of the Shrew, Measure for Measure, Romeo and Juliet I think could be more!) to make the plays more exciting because Shakespeare lived in an age where the world was not yet fully understood and exploration was an interest of many people.

Shakespeare placed his plays elsewhere so that the people of London could look objectively at themselves. However, he also used aspects of London so that the people could recognize themes and aspects of their own society.

one major word....METADRAMA....don't forget this is METADRAMATICAL...so S's constantly reminding his audience that they are in the theater - yes, the theater in London - watching a play...MMEETTAADRRAAMMAA

even though measue for measure was set in vienna, it does have parrallels with shakepheres contempary england. contextually speaking, the audience of the day would have found it easy to relate with the plots if they showed likeness to current issues. of course shakesphere knew this. the dukes charecter shows striking resemberlance with the king of the day who intermingled with the people, and laymen. i see the point the other person was trying to make even though the play was actually set in Vienna.
