The doctors in that time aren't like our doctors they study astrology and astronomy. they have four humors blood choler phlegm and black bile. if your skin is red then you are said to have a lot of blood so you are very happy and full of life. If you have a yellow tone then you are said to have a lot of choler witch is yellow bile and you are grumpy and mean. If you are said to have a lot of phlegm then you are said to be nice and know a lot. If you have a lot of black bile then you are grouchy and not wanted to be around. The doctor also has apothocaries witch are like pharmacist. The doctor wore red garments with a bluish gray sash lined with taffeta.

I am doing a project on the doctor in Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales". I was wondering if you could help me understand what the exerpt in the prologue about the doctor means. Thank you for your time.
