Like a short story that's suspenseful for you to film? I write suspenseful short stories...

If you mean an actual novel, I recommend The Day of the Jackal by Fredrick Forsyth, probably some of the most suspenseful stuff you'll find, or Misery by Stephen King.

The Day of the Jackal was made into a pretty gripping film too back in the '70's. Don't watch the remake with Bruce Willis, Jack Black and Richard Gere, that's crap on a stick. But the original film was really good.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Volume 1 - Yoshiyuki Sadamoto
Song for Night - Chris Abani

i liked the turn of the screw but i thought james was absolutely the king of the overly compound sentence!

i agree with day of the jackal for suspense---the book takes you right down to the wire, though ive not seen a movie version of it. you might also want to consider forsyth's the odessa file---also a right down to the wire book.
