    review for lit class

For me, Don Quixote is a story that should be thought of as a fictional tale. I don't think Cervantes meant for us to think of Don Quixote as a human we could completely relate to, or a character to really judge. Don Quixote's character is symbolic of the heart of man, the part of a person that never wants to give up. Don Quixote lived in his own world and made his own reality. Reading about it was humorous and frustrating at times, but making our own reality is what each of us does every day even if it is to a lesser extreme. He was a fool at times, a hero at times at least at heart, and a normal man at times with strengths and weaknesses. In some ways I think Cervantes made a character who dove into a dream world, because many of us dream of being a hero or of being something we are not. The character of Don Quixote is not always admired- some people think he is a fool, but Cervante's novel was a success because it shows how deeply one can go after their vision of who they want to be.

great piece karen. I believe also that don quixote teaches us to laugh at ourselves and to not take the world too seriously. Perhaps also it could be said that we are all just actors on a huge set. I reference the Duke and Duchess ridiculing of D.Q and Sancho, they took themselves so seriously even though everything was already preordained.
