Quixote can no longer endure the tranquility of his established village life. Like a housewife that needs fullfillment, he must engage in undesirable behavior to achieve this goal. Miguel de Cervantes does an excellent job in relating this by showing the reader a blue-print of Don Quixote's mind. The novel is fascinating an inspirational.
Nice observation, JerryJ. But why limit your comparison to frustrated housewives? Think of all the "successful" lawyers, businessmen, priests, etc. who get to a point in their life in the midst of their success only to realize that something is missing: something deeper than external success or even its lack. Alonso Quijano's unrest no doubt has to do with his physical circumstances -- hidalgo sitting around selling his land to read books -- but more, I'd argue, to do with the spirit. Nevertheless, thanks for your observations.
