The Glass Room by Simon Mawer

Basically the action spans many decades- from the 30's to the 90's- and it is all centred around a glass house, with political context going on in the background.

It's certainly an interesting book, although the prose is too wordy at times. Its main problem is that it too often verges into the pornographic and the characters are never developed fully enough for anybody to care about them.

Yes I read this when it was nominated for the Booker Prize a few years ago and it was probably my favorite from the shortlist that year.
