    Scrabble

    The board
    laid across an old table
    which echoes a language
you and I no longer speak.
We will never locate such words
    in the Oxford to temper
    the stale atmosphere.

Still, we thrash out our differences
    with a game of scrabble.

    You swear.
    I savour the blank
    even though our facial expressions
    tell the same, worn story
    over and over again
    amidst the etchings
    in the wooden table
    of a bygone family life.

    Why am I not surprised
    by the ending?

    The distance,
    grown tired of letters
    and meanings
just like the thinly disguised scores
    shaped by sarcastic wit
    and a cursory kiss,
    grows by inches,
    tile by tile.

Domestic, sour, and the goddamn board game from hell. It mixes nicely in the airs of frustration.

    MystyrMystyry....very good job!

Delta...wouldn't it be nice if life was like a game board...you could put it away when you got tired of it....at least that is how I feel. I thought your poem was great! I understood it!

Oh my. You have described millions of relationships. That stale atmosphere.....

    I enjoyed your poem.
I'm in love with The Vinegar Man and Mr. Tanner, but be careful, it could just as easily be you.

The story is well told - nice poetic prose.

I love it. Plus fifty! Keep writing, Delta. It's definitely one of my favorites.

Good job Delta. Now give the extended metaphore a rest and give us a Delta narrative

    For those who believe,
    no explanation is necessary.
    For those who do not,
    none will suffice.

This is - if possible - even more original than your others... where is the end, Delta, you're better and better, and you described here something so universal...

Thanks Bar. Perhaps there is a mixed opinion. I have felt so influenced by the poets I read lately.
