    David Copperfield = short story........what?

Anyway, Rewalker if you're looking for "underground" short stories by young authors (which I take to mean, short stories that are not sold on every bookshelf), you should look into some literary magazines: they usually publish some great poetry/short stories by local authors (wherever local may be)

He asked for underground literature, not classics.

To the OP: The best advice I can offer you is to find local big city authors nearest to where you live who are not on the national spotlight. It is not easy, but you can do this through query at your local library, and your newspaper's book editor, and just possibly, an independent bookstore, although even a franchise like B&N will occasionally cater to locally published talent.

I doubt you will find anything under the radar on a board like this, which is conservative, and sticks to the traditional canon.

PS: Charles is correct about lit zines, I started my career as a writer in small and university presses, and I can help you search these so you can find what pleases you--not this evening though. I am off to bed soon.

Umm... Dostoevsky is far from an "underground" writer... in spite of the title.

There used to be a great e-magazine called Four volts . They published short stories from up-and-coming authors. The magazine re-named itself Neon recently. But as far as I can see they still print good quality stories from young authors. I was lucky enough to have a story feature in the first issue.

    The link is: http://www.neonmagazine.co.uk/

Thank you all for your advices. I am definetly looking for underground short stories, not classics. And armenian i read "Notes from underground" and i think it is one of the greatest of the greatests. And i think Dostoyevski can be considered as an underground writer if the era he lived is considered. I will soon check the neon magazine, and Laird Barron.

And to Jozanny: Thank u for your offer for help but i am more interested in the advices for the names of the authors and their stories rather than searching that what i like in the lit zines. But it is ok if you send me any urls for those magazines.
