    Awakening me Sleeping Pom

    For Delta

    I sit upon the beach
watching surfers, while the Great Whites feast,
then sling another prawn upon the barbie.

I’ve got used to all the little beasts
that lurk in dunnies (and beneath me feet)
and relish bonzer Sheilas on the run.

    I sing Advance Austrailia Fair,
with all due reverence and flair,
and love to watch Paul Hogan on the telly,

But when I hear of ‘home’
me cobbers can’t suppress a moan
as, dewy eyed, I think upon the seasons.

I miss the gold of autumn leaves,
the smells of soggy moss and trees,
with dust-storms rolling in on rusty clouds.

    It’s true, I’ve got a tan
    and that it’s not applied by hand;
I can wear me shorts and T-shirt all year round

But a letter sent from Blighty
makes me feel a little flighty
and I long to see an English field or town.

    ‘cause me passage was assisted
    then the urge goes un-resisted,
and eventually I’m bound to take the plane

    and I freeze when disembarking
and me rental’s got no parking
and congestion charges drain vacation funds.

Then I walk into a pub
staffed by Aussies, there’s the rub,
I might as well have bloody stayed at home.

Lol. Very witty Hawk and that's true about Aussies (and Kiwis) working in your pubs!

Aye, Delta. There's a higher density in the smoke but even on Dartmoor they can be found lurking behind the occasional bar - lol.

    Thanks Twota
