And don't we want them to enjoy themselves? ARE they enjoying it? Or is it something they just do, without, erm, thinking about it?

I'm told that they don't feel pleasure. Apparently, it's just dolphins and primates that do.

Aren't we the lucky ones? Now see, if there was a God you'd think he'd see to it that all living creatures got to enjoy it. (Not sayin' I don't believe, just sayin')

If the Buddhists are right I'm hoping I get reborn as a dolphin or chimp. That's weird. I always assumed sexual pleasure was universal across the animal kingdom.

There are certain kinds of moths that reproduce exclusively through rape, the males use paralytic spores to "seduce" the females.

Edit: We don't actually understand much about sexual pleasure in other animals. We know that many primates and dolphins use sex and masturbation for stress release and social bonding. So far those are the only other animals that use sex for reasons other than reproduction that we're sure of.

Haha, well golly, how romantic. At least he doesn't bite her head off afterwards like some insects. Bugs are so weird.

Apparently bed bugs reproduce by the male penetrating the female's abdomen and ejaculating into her hemolymph. They certainly have developed a number of very interesting reproductive strategies.

A lot of stick insects are exclusively parthonogenetic, they give birth to little female clones of themselves.

Eugh. That sounds familiar, I think that might have been one of the ones mentioned on your weird-yet-cool "how bugs have sex" performance art videos. My favorite was the earth worm, when I was a kid I used to play with that wrinkly skin-piece of theirs.
