I just heard that one of America's wittiest writers has shuffled off this here mortal coil: Russell Baker (1925-2019.)
Best known as a newspaper columnist and a memoirist, Mr. Baker received two Pulitzer Prizes. Some of the more -- let's say "mature"-- NitLetters may remember him as the successor to Alastair Cooke as the host of Masterpiece Theatre. But yours fooly really is "old enough to remember"* an extremely funny column Mr. Baker wrote way back in 1981.
