In chapters two and five Winston has two experiences that imply that children are brainwashed from a very young age. The first being in chapter two when Winston is asked to unclog the parsons kitchen sink. Winston proceeds to their apartment where the parsons two children are there, imitating the thought police as if it were a game. The children are also very upset because they couldn't go to the public hanging that was occurring that day. The second occurrence was in chapter five when Winston was talking with Parson and he was describing how his young daughter captured a spy based on the fact that he had strange shoes. to her this indicated that he was a foreigner. These children are being brainwashed at such a young age because the government believes that ignorance is more strength. Meaning the more ignorant you are the more room the government has to control you. and who is more ignorant than a child?
