    Mao and then

I have two apples, you dont have any apples
    I share my apples
    One each.
    Dad explained communism
When he picked me up from swimming
    With chlorine in my eyes.
    Sounded promising

Id just had cheese and onion crisps
    From the vending machine
    Grasped all politics
And later I was going to pinch plums
    From a neighbours tree.

He had plums and we wanted them
    To throw at buildings
    We shared them out,
    Little Lenin,
    Tommy Trostky and me

    We played football
I had two left legs, they said
As they could say that back then
Before the ambidextrous act kicked in

    I dont really love you
    She said
I offered her a pink lady
    Id polished in my pocket

    Apples didnt help anything

I had chlorine in my eyes
    The street lights had halos
If my dad had two apples
    Hed give me one
    so wed
    Play with soldiers
    And elastic bands
    And keep the red flag
    Flying.

    For those who believe,
    no explanation is necessary.
    For those who do not,
    none will suffice.

There is so much about this poem that I really liked. All your poems are thought-provoking and so eloquently written. Thank you.
