Be careful you do not choke
on that bread, eat slower,
and wash it down with something
to drink, I tell her without thinking.

My daughter, who is to be
married this year, says, "Did
you really just tell that to me?"

What she doesn't know
is that when are walking
along the street and we reach
the traffic lights

I sometimes begin reaching
to hold her hand.
