When Winston goes to where the Proles live, he feels comfortable. He notices every little detail about everyone. The Proles live normal, un-watched lives. However, they notice by Winston's blue overalls that he is from the Party, and it makes them a little uneasy. You would think that the Proles would want nothing to do with people of the Party- considering they barely acknowledge the Proles- and might even hate them. However, while Winston is walking down the street, he is approached by a man who warns him about the "steamers." And then later on, they continue to talk with him. The Proles treat him fairly and as an equal. They don't mind his "Party" status.
