    Question Could the Proles Rebel?

In the book 1984 written by George Orwell, there is a working-class group called the proles. The proles take up the majority of the population. Wouldnt the proles have the ability to rebel against the Big Brother? The Big Brother has weaponry but they wouldn't want to take out the proles because they make the rich richer. The working class has been able to overthrow the government as seen from history such as the French Revolution. Without a working class, any government would eventually collapse in on itself, right? George Orwell wrote 1984 looking at past events then wrote this book on his image on how the future would look. It would be difficult to form a rebellion because of the abundant amount of spies and the overuse of telescreens. Would the proles be able to eventually find a way to rebel from Big Brother right?

The Proles have the numbers to rebel but they're kept from doing so because they don't have food and rely on the government to keep them alive. Big Brother also keeps them uneducated causing them to be loyal and unquestioning to authority. The Proles lack any ambition to rebel. Prole is short for Proletariat which is the loyal working class in a dictatorship like the one "Oceania" is in. Big Brother also puts out an enormous amount of propaganda keeping the truth of whats really happening from the Proles. A common enemy is provided with Eurasia making people to distracted to want to rebel against the government. This combined with the extreme poverty, lack of weapons and ambition and uneducation makes it so the Proles will probably never be able to really form a meaningful rebellion. Without a martyr or a strong proletariat leader a rebellion from the Proles would be impossible. If there were to be a rebellion it would have to come from the Outer Party. This will probably not happen due to the censoring and brainwashing happening throughout the novel.

While the Proles have the numbers to rebel they are held back by their poverty. They rely on the government fo resources to stay alive. Big Brother also keepes them uneducated to keep the Proles from questioning authority. Prole is short for Prolerariat which is the loyal working class. They're also brainwashed with the enormous amount of propaganda being put out by big brother. They don't have a martyr or strong leader to motivate them to rebel. These reasons combine to make it impossible for a rebellion staged by the Proles.

While the proles have the numbers to rebel, they can't because they've been brainwashed by the propaganda Big Brother puts out. They also rely on the government to stay alive because they have no resources. They also lack motivation to rebel due to not having a strong leader or martyr. Their crippling poverty, lack of ambition and brainwashing, there is no chance for a rebellion from the proles.

    Proles being able to rebel

Yes, technically the proles could rebel against Big Brother. They make up nearly 85% of the population of Oceania which means they definitely have the majority and could muster the strength to defeat Big Brother. They also don't have telescreens watching over them like the other citizens which could make for an easier rebellion. However, the proles lead brutish, ignorant, animalistic lives, and lack both the energy and interest to even revolt. Along with that most of the proles do not even understand that the Party (Big Brother) is oppressing them. This leads to the proles most likely not being able to rebel against Big Brother.

Orwell does hint that they could but the chances of the proles rebelling is very slim. Winston claims that they are the only group of people who still have the emotions from the past. They are more similar in family structure as it was before the rebellion.
