    A Natural Selection # 14

THE FRENCH MARIGOLD – A SPICE FOR LIFE

The French Marigold is more than
Just a pretty flower of the daisy family
In the Republic of Georgia in the Caucasus,
Tagetes Patula flowers are dried and ground
To make the Georgian spice Imeretian Saffron
An essential ingredient in the spice mixture
    Khmeli-Suneli, which in Georgian cuisine
Is on a par with Garam Masala in Northern India
Georgians share elements of Mughlai cuisine

AS WE STROLL ALONG THE MUDDY PUDDLED PATHS

As we stroll along the muddy puddled paths
That dissect the lush green pasture
We are caught in a squally august shower
And must hastily head for cover
It was a futile gesture as we were soaked
Within a minute of running through wet grass
But we eventually reached a sturdy oak
Where we waited out the storm, until
Bright yellow beams of light pierced the canopy
We emerged from our cover and resumed the stroll
Everything was wet from the rain, with
Raindrop glistening on every leaf and bough
So we made haste along the sun swathed paths
Safe in the knowledge that when the rain came again
They would be safely inside looking out

    FOXGLOVES

On my daily walks the Foxgloves thrive
Especially in a new woodland clearing
And on the heath after a devastating fire
But my favourite display is on the rocky tops
Of the cliffs overlooking the sea

THE SOUNDS OF NATURE PLAYS A SYMPHONY

The sounds of nature plays a symphony
In the summer, fall, winter and spring
The rain and hail, blizzard and storm
Even the wind in the trees has a song to sing

    THE EAGLE SOARS

    The eagle soars
    On majestic wings
    Effortless in flight
    Riding thermals
    In the distant sky

    THE SHREW

The Shrew has the look of a long-nosed mouse,
But it is not a rodent, in fact it’s a cousin of the mole,
And they are foragers where the find seeds, insects,
Nuts, and worms, in leaf litter and dense vegetation
And will take advantage of arable farmland fields
And reap the benefit of corn, wheat and barley ears

You paint so beautifully with your words.
It is always such a pleasure to read your 'take' on life. Love it!
Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty

I liked Foxgloves best. It makes me want to look out from a cliff on the sea.

These are all good Biggus! And these lines just roll off the tongue...

"As we stroll along the muddy puddled paths
That dissect the lush green pasture
Live in the sunshine. Swim in the sea. Drink the wild air ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
