    Buck & Tel

    Two man-boys in a scratch peel pickup,
    State Route 32;
    Radio playing stuff
    they sometimes sing along to.
    Got a gun in the dash -
    hacksaw under the seat:
    Entering City of Chico
    and onto Walnut Street.

    One's dirty blonde with hazel eyes,
    one has a red buzz-cut, the mean laugh of a child:
    Did things that'd turn stomachs where they're coming from -
    still not been found out, but it won't be long.

    Buck and Tel:
    One last play for a throne in hell,
    the law's arm hasn't yet reached out -
    and that's something they've been thinking about.
    Buck and Tel:
    So far it's all worked out so well -
    and the hunting season's open still;
    not how, but when and who to kill.
    Just who.

    Forest Ranch, Tehama County..
    the road rolls out and on,
    burning fuel for human bounty -
    there's gonna be someone.
    Hell, just one this time's not gonna do -
    been talking 'bout a family home;
    kind with a double front drive and a swimming pool -
    before starting, splitting 'em in rooms on their own.

    One grinds his teeth and drums on the wheel,
    one wears the first hit's boots, capped toe in steel -
    he hosed them down 'bout two gas stations along
    from where they made sure the last of him was gone.

    Buck and Tel:
    One last play for a throne in hell,
    the law's arm hasn't yet reached out -
    and that's something they've been thinking about.
    Buck and Tel:
    So far it's all worked out so well -
    and the hunting season's open still;
    not how, but when and who to kill.
    Just who.

    They've got a place now,
    they're waiting round back
    for those porch deck lights to go.
    Then just in that way they know somehow
    after 20 more in pitch black -
    the time will be right
    for blood to flow.

    I enjoyed reading this. As I'm English it read like Americana and reminded me of my favourite author Richard Laymon.

    For those who believe,
    no explanation is necessary.
    For those who do not,
    none will suffice.
