I like the ending. It's got a nostalgic flavor. He finally makes it to Los Angeles and calls back home to Norfolk. He uses the old Ma Bell telephone exchange system, and says to the operator:
"Los Angeles, give me Norfolk Virginia, Tidewater 4 - 10 - Oh - 9"
