It snowed heavily all yesterday causing two periods of internet and lights blackout. Now the snow is very deep here, so we are housebound. I don't think I have ever seen so much snow around our house, probably 1.5 metres deep. The temperature has fallen now to - 8 celsius.
No trains running on the Gävle- Ljusdal line, not even cargo trains. No newspapers delivered, either.
I hope you have everything you need there. Have you got snow removing service?

We have a tractor come around asap, and they charge us a fee for clearing our drive of snow.
February is turning into a month with many cold days - like -20 celsius - so most days I am stuck indoors all the time.
Nearly a week has passed since I last posted in this thread. The snow is still thick on the ground, about 4 to 5 feet thick. Each time it snows is added to that already on the ground. It is between high banks of snow that we walk up to the parked car. The snow isn't cleared away but is simply piled up high on each side of the road.
At least you seem in good health. What about the people, that used to clear the snow away?

They still do that. But they concentrate on getting the worst snow off the roads, and especially the road junctions. We are not very satisfied with the limited road clearing that is done, but such heavy snowfalls are a bit exceptional. They do their best, and spend much of the spring carting the snow away.
Our summer weather up to now has been unusually mild this year. No rainstorms in Carnival, temperatures seldom rising above 30ºC. But maybe this means a harder winter in northern countries.

I'm not much wiser, is Carnival the name of a location? Or is it where all carnivals are held?

The video I sent you is about the winner of the contest of Samba schools of Rio. Sorry, that it is commented in Portuguese. Maybe the best way to watch it, is by turning off the sound.
In the last years the favorite location for Carnival are the streets of the big cities.
That means that some avenues are literally flooded with people. In the region where I live it is difficult therefore to go out in the afternoons during the weekends.

It is a Christian Celebration 40 days before Easter.

In Brasil and now in São Paulo too the festivities sometimes last more than a month.
