People are dressing up as frightening-looking clowns to scare children. It's stupid and disgusting. I have a pet theory it is an angry reaction to the over-protective nanny state, but that's just speculation. Hopefully it will blow over after Halloween. That's all I know about it.

I was firstly very surprised, as children here adore circus and clowns. And I didn´t know anything about the movie. Here are some links. The problem is its association to violence.

That was a very thorough Wikipedia item on this phenomenon, tailor.

BBC Brazil also published an article on it today. As with so many people today, the aim of these clowns is probably to appear in the media.

How about a registry for anyone purchasing clown outfits?

These creeps may not be scaring any children but they are scaring the devil out of adults that have kids. To me, it is one more instance of mindless people pushing the envelope to participate in some stupid craze. Someone could get famous out of this, or infamous.

Folk in clown suits must show contracts to prove they are at a locale to work or on their way to a work locale.

Someone with a good enough reason, or on the wrong drug, will shoot one clown and the craze will be over.
