I enjoy fish and chips very much. Although here in Canada, it is NOTHING like what you'd get in London at the pubs... I have been several times and would only ever order either Fish 'n Chips or Bangers 'n Mash.... heavenly... believe me!

If you have a chance, then try it. Unfortunately, most places in the U.S. have trouble with the fish and/or the batter. Fish used to be cheap, bit things change.

Where frozen fish are concerned, I have to compliment a company from the USA who export a battered halibut frozen fish package. This is absolutely delicious -- it is difficult to compare to the wonderful London pub fish/chips treat, but hey, this one is available to us in Canada, and it is truly delicious!

Yes, and there are some restaurants where excellent fish & chips are available, but they are not most places.
I haven't been there in years, but Ye Olde English Fish & Chips in Woonsocket, Rhode Island is one place that does an excellent job.

There is nothing like a family operation, that link tells it all.

Anyhow, in the interest of 'worst food combination', I have to wonder about these things called Hush Puppies. We don't have them in Canada -- thank gawd. But when I have travelled down South, the further down I go, the more places serve these.

To me, and remember, tis only my opinion for sure, but anyhow, there is something disgusting about eating deep fried dough balls... *gag*

The British co-worker told me he didn't like the fish and chips he found in the US, but he did eat it.

I'm not sure if it qualifies, but yesterday for lunch I cooked German bratwurst sausages, with Indian Bombay potatoes, washed down with a Jack Daniels & Coke.

The only part of that meal that seems inappropriate for my taste is the Coke.

I beg to differ. I like onions. and they make things better. But I see your point. You and I are on opposite sides of the same coin.

I know what you mean, but unfortunately the only spirit I can drink straight is good brandy. Even a ten year old malt requires from me an ice cube and water.

Have you tried the sweeter red onions instead of the strong white ones?

OK ... so we are on the topic of onions...
Well, I don't mind onions, raw or cooked in a meal.
BUT -- what I do mind, and it falls under the "Worst Food Combination?" title would definitely be those dreadful 'onion buds' ... these are onions that are deep fried in a batter and served with steak, etc. Oh my gawd ... awful in its worst connotation ...
I hope that this link will illustrate what I mean: https://www.google.ca/search?q=onion...=1506556534067
