James Garner as Jim Rockford on The Rockford Files, because he was a character. There have been many good characters played by skilled actors or actresses, but few hold up over time, but Rockford was one, and Lt Parker on McHale's Navy, played by Tim Conway, is another, because he was (and is) funny). Of course, Diana Rigg as Mrs Peele on The Avengers was in a class by herself, because she was almost as beautiful as you. Some of the members of the original Star Trek make the second cut, but nor even Leonard Nimoy is up there with James Garner.

I usually watch Brazilian soap operas and Brazilian series on TV, so there are several actors and actresses I like.
But the oldest, best and most famous today is Oscar nominated Fernanda Montenegro.

"I seemed to have sensed also from an early age that some of my experiences as a reader would change me more as a person than would many an event in the world where I sat and read. "

Oh I'd have to go for Lucille Ball & Desi Arnez in "I Love Lucy" on your side of the Pond.
Back in Blighty "Jack Warner" in "Dixon of Dock Green."
US:My two favs are Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo in "Golden Girls" and Toni Colette as Tara Gregson in "United States of Tara"
UK: Joanna Lumley as Patsy Stone in "Absolutely Fabulous" and of course Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess in "Downton Abbey".
The reason? All four are brilliant actresses in brilliant TV shows.

The only television personality I like is the cute-ish demon or ghost or something who haunts the young woman in a series of commercials for some kind diarrhea medicine.
