    Euro 2016

We all know how this goes...

    EUROPEAN CUP GAME:

    - All start with 100 Forum coins (please feel free to suggest an appropriate name for our 2016 coins)

    - Everyone predicts the result of a game (not the score but the winner or a draw) and bet some Forum coins (which are yet to be named for this year)

    - If correct, you earn as many coins as you bet. If not, lose the amount you have bet.

    - All bets should be placed before the game starts.

    - At the end, whoever has the most coins is the winner.

This will require some track-keeping but we are all adults here (well, mostly) and I expect we are all honest as well so please no-post editing after the results.

    First up:

    France v Romania

You didn't include an entry for me. I will win the Euro '16 Cup.

What are forum coins? Are they real money or invented money?

I picked Wales because I didn't know that place existed.

Suggestion for the name: "urns" or "amphoras" (look at the official logo here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2016)

For this first round, I bet 50 urns (amphoras?) on France (they organize the thingie after all).

Oi! my granny was Welsh. (she was good in attack, but perhaps lacked creativity in the midfield.)

It's a picture of a pitcher, but Urns are good, or perhaps Earns.

After much research, Ukraine are my pick to win (at 80/1) mainly because they won the Eurovision Song Contest and so must be on a roll.

Anyway I'll have 10 on france. It should be about 4-0 but I'm playing a cautious game this year.

I reckon France should win against Romania so I'll risk 20 smurfs on the Frogs.

Switzerland may well threaten to burn the Albanian brigands' match fixing racket money, or at the very least, lose the keys to the safety deposit boxes where all the illicit offshore loot is stored. So they've gotta be worth a punt at 10 smurfs.

I'm less certain of the results for the Wales/Slovakia game. I'll go five each way on that one. But, unless Russia tries to annex Scotland or Jersey when we're not looking, England is my choice for 30 Smurfs. I'd take a draw at 10.

But about that poll. Are you closing it tonight or in October? If you want us to pick a winner tonight, how can we be certain we'll have any smurfs left to wager by the end of the tournament? That's a lot of games... Or is the poll a separate flutter in the form of an elective sweepstake. I pick one as opposed to drawing one at random for a fixed price and if I get lucky, I get lucky?

Well, that don't impress me much... Surely didn't feel like Cup game. In front of home crowd too.

Ok, thanks to a blinding goal in the 88th minute, I'm now 20 Smurfs richer, but at the same time, I now have to find somewhere to keep 'em and I'll have to hire someone to muck 'em out occasionally. Of course, I may lose a few over the weekend, or I may gain a few more. Meanwhile, I guess I'll have to build a bigger camp for them. And employ guards to stop them escaping. Is it worth it, I ask myself?

Damn! Another ten Smurfs to support! I'll up my bid on Wales to win for 20 Smurfs. Hey! Scher, you got my score wrong. I had ten on Switzerland.

Sorry about that, Hawk, but could you please be clearer on your betting, specifying the result of your ruminations in a separate sentence and you can bet on only one outcome for each game... So either, Team A, B or a draw please.
