Thread: The Explanation

    The Explanation

the sinister resolve of a wicked man's sneer
may enliven even a leprechaun's kiln
to muster legs and flee apanic

    a brave, noble, fearless one
will, for whatever instant, watch his heart
    be torn asunder

    and still find time
to look up at the oppressive demon's eye
while, by the most abysmal , horrific fire ablaze,
a wand will appear to dispel the tiniest incongruity

I am not sure what the message is in this, but I suppose there doesn't have to be a message. The wand looks like an instrument of hypnosis. I like the perspective of the one getting his heart torn out.

    Which hell?

I very much enjoyed the descriptive language of your poem, please don't take my critique the wrong way, i just think that your poem would benefit from being put in some sort of cultural context. Is your poem from the perspective of a Thugee or from an Irish catholic? One of the greek roots of the word "demon", 'eudaimonia' literally means "good spiritedness". The ancient greek Daemons were both benevolant and benign. The word only lost its positive connotations during the anti-pagan persecutions of the early christian era.

Also, Jains believe in seven different hells and Jews completely reject the concept of hell altogether.

.hello HC.>all these questions..kinda like a desire for debate..Macmillan, only one dictionary I checked, partially defines>demon>n>an evil spirit//one of the evil spirits
of traditional Jewish & Christian belief..I don't wish to take it any further..I'll revisit (reread) your comment..but doubt I'll change the poem cause it was channeled
through me by my 1st guiding spirit, a long time ago..and, mostly, it is because i understand it and it comes across as quite complete to me..if some readers do
not understand most/all of it, it's fine..there are times, in workshops, I adopt others' suggestions.but this time I'll thank you for your interest and leave it at that..

    ..best wishes.>sp
