John Renbourn went to Heaven today.

He is such a beautiful musician.. he wrote and performed a very prolific amount of music. Not just folk, but plenty of blues and jazzy tunes as well.

20 solo albums (at least) and dozens of others.

I would give some favorites, but I really loved everything I heard of his.

Okay, some of my favorites are

    Just Like Me

    Lady Goes to Church

    So Clear

    My Dear Boy

Little Niles (this one is live, with a video)

Three Pieces by O'Carolan (the third one.. wait for it)

Spirit Levels with Stefan Grossman, a beautiful and fancy guitar duo; another live one with a video.

I could write for pages but I will simply say thank you for such beautiful music, for your faith, for your light.

    Pentangilng

And of course everything he did with Pentangle. And his work with Bert.

    Peace!

As I said earlier in my re-introduction, I've just returned to this site so I just saw this. Renbourn's passing was and is a very big deal to me. I fell in love with his playing and JRG at a certain important time in my life, and in a certain context, and moreover his music moved me very deeply. For some thirty years I have listened in particular to The Enchanted Garden, as well as his album The Hermit. I actually didn't know much about Pentangle until not long ago. Also, on YouTube, was their last show with the late Bert Jansch, shortly before his own death, and it is painful and poignant to watch. If you're my age, you're beginning to witness the deaths of your heroes, and it leaves a hollow inside you.

Renbourn and Jansch were amazing, especially together. The latter's descent into alcoholism constituted a kind of undeclared end to a certain type of music. But their influence on more mainstream musicianship was profound (especially Jansch's). I was sad to see Renbourn go, too.
