    The Human Experiment

The story starts off by telling the reader about a live interview taking place at the BBC studios. The interviewee is a stern and brash gentleman called Richard Johnson. The person being interviewed is a scientist called Chris.

The interview is about recent events which have taken place in Chris’s life. Mainly about the night of October 26th 2019. And also about a recent trip to Australia which Chris attended.

The reason to why the interview is on television is down to what Chris has recently said with regards to extra-terrestrial beings/life, or aliens.

The story transcended from a presentation he gave to the Royal institute of Great Britain where a young reporter who was attending then made Chris's story public. Chris didn't mind that his story became public, in fact he welcomed it. He was glad it did. Everyone thought Chris to be mad, or that his story was a hoax. He was quickly dubbed ‘Crazy Chris’. The British public and some other parts of the world became hooked by Chris's story. Many people weren't entirely sure of the exact story itself. The story exploded into Chinese whispers. Finally, enough was enough and the world’s audience wanted to know the truth, even if it was just an elaborate hoax.

The interview took place on December 1st 2019 and was streamed live around the world.

More than 100 Million people were expected to tune in and watch.

As the story is revealed by Chris to the audience and the interviewee, everything seems farcical, made up, a joke - Chris was saying that he had seen and spoken to aliens when he was in Australia. The aliens told him that they would visit him again in the very near future to tell him something extraordinary. That near future was the night of the 26th October 2019.

Chris continues to tell the audience that when the aliens spoke to him again that night they said:

“Humans were an experiment, a test. We created the planet Earth for Humans. We gave humans life, we gave humans an existence. As we said, humans were an experiment. Humans have exceeded our expectations, but their biggest downfall is themselves. It's their weakness. We have seen too much death and destruction, the human experiment was becoming a failure. We are going to terminate you. This experiment is no more. As a parting farewell gesture we are going to give you a chance. We will return to you One year today. You have till then to protect yourselves. Build your armies, become united. Save your lives. If you manage to impress us, we will spare your existence.”

Upon this announcement from Chris, the interviewee and the audience are shocked! It seems Chris is deluded. He just wanted his appalling 15 minutes of fame and he was getting it. There was no proof, no real evidence. It was all make believe. It isn't till the end of the interview when Chris states he is sorry to tell the world about this devastating news. He says he has been taken prisoner by the aliens and that he had to reveal the truth to humanity or his life would be taken.

    He had no choice.

He then tells the interviewee and audience he has nothing left to say and that he would be leaving now. The interviewee says:

“You’re not going anywhere. You should be arrested, this is a terrorist attack.”

    He calls for Security.

Chris says his final goodbye and vanishes from the screen.

He disappears from thin air, he disappears from earth, and he is never seen again.

The audience is left shocked. Was it a hoax? Was it a magic act? Was it real? Was it the truth? Humanity is left wondering. Do they really have one year to prepare for war? To save their existence? No one is sure.....No one is certain.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A television spokesperson softly begins to mutter the following. “And up next, live on BBC1 we have the interview everyone has been waiting for." With a minimal pause, the spokesperson continues with. “Is his story true? Is it a hoax? We're about to find out. It's Chris's story."

"Good evening, I’m Richard Johnson." He says abruptly. And with a raised tone of importance. "Welcome to Chris's story. Chris is here with us now. How are you Chris?"

"I'm good thanks, and you, Richard?" He says, unconditionally.

"Very good. Thanks for asking." Replies Richard, coldly.

With the pleasantries aside, Richard immediately goes on to say. “Now then. For anyone who is unaware to why we are all here, I will update you; Chris has stated recently that he has seen, and spoken with aliens. The aliens told Chris they would visit him again to tell him some unfortunate news. And so they did. The aliens revisited him on the 26th October 2019, and told Chris 'the news'. And that's as much as we know. Chris's story was made public, and for some reason the world has become hooked. Everyone wants to know the truth. The whole truth. Even if there is any truth in the first place. Even if it is just an elaborate hoax, right Chris?"

"It’s not a hoax. I wish it was." Replies Chris.

"You know Chris. We can end the interview now. Just tell us it’s a hoax. It's a fantastic wind up, yes?"

"I wish I could, I really do. But I'm afraid everything which has happened so far is the truth. And it has to be told."

Are you sure? The whole world is watching, Chris. Just say you’re sorry, you made the story up, and we can be done with it.

I wish it was as simple as that, I really do. But I'm here to tell my story, and I will.

You do realise your pride and reputation are all at stake here, Chris?

I do, and that doesn't matter to me. It's beside the point.

And you do realise this could get embarrassing for you?

I think not. If anything, you, and everyone else will be the embarrassed ones.

Is that an attempt at a threat, Chris?

No, not at all. I'm just saying, once you've heard my story, you'll all be thinking otherwise.

Okay Chris, as you wish. You will have your fifteen minutes of fame.

    Thank you.

Well, the floor is yours, are you ready to tell your story?

    I certainly am.

Very well, now in your own time.....in your own words......just tell us Chris, what exactly happened on the night of October 26th 2019."

It was a Saturday. I remember the day being a Saturday as the football was on the tele. I wasn't watching the match, as I was in the study. I just remember hearing the familiar sounds of football; the commentary, the crowd, the players, the thud sound the ball makes every time it's kicked. It was a football match alright. And I think it was Arsenal vs. Tottenham. Actually, no, it WAS Arsenal vs. Tottenham.

"Yes, that's correct. I think it was 5-0 to Arsenal in the end.
And why was television on, if you were in the study?

I switched the TV on in the morning to watch a sports news programme I watch every Saturday morning. I must have just left it on.

And what were you doing in your study?

I was making some final adjustments towards a presentation I had on Monday morning.

    What was the presentation about?

It was about my recent trip to Australia.

Ah, yes, let me see. You were there....September 23rd to the 6th October, correct?

Yes, that's right. I was there on behalf of...

...on behalf of the Royal institute of Great Britain?

    Yes.

To study, research and obtain any theory towards the, and I quote...Towards the unexplained night-time activity occurring around various parts of Western Australia. Mainly near a small town called Chichester. Correct?

    That's correct.

And for all who didn't know already. Chris is a Scientist. And Chris, which area of science do you specialise in?

    Astronomy and geology.

    And you’re a freelance scientist?

    Yes.

    What does that exactly entail?

Well, I work for various institutes, colleges and universities. Who from time to time employ me in respect toward my theories regarding extra-terrestrial activity. The pay isn't very good. In fact I've had to re-mortgage my house.

Surely not? It says here, when you were working at UCL (University College London) as a physics lecturer.....between the years of 2009 to 2016. That your annual salary was just under sixty five thousand a year? No?

Yes, that’s true. But for the last three years my income has been next to nothing almost.

Really, so you've sacrificed your livelihood for the sake of science?

I wouldn't put it like that. More, for science....For the greater good of science.

For the greater good of science you say? For science is a great wonder for humanity after all. Wouldn't you agree Chris?

I certainly would, and such a mysterious one I might add.

Yes, sure. Now where were we? You were in your study making some final adjustments towards your presentation to the Royal institute of Great Britain, yes?

    Yes, that's right.

What sort of presentation was it?

Well, the institute asked me to present my findings as an oral presentation. So I put together a rough, word for word account of my time in Australia.

And this was the account you presented to the institute, that Monday morning?

    Yes.

And I believe you have the written account with you now?

    I do, yes.

Now then Chris, if you could read the account to us, word for word.....when you’re ready.

    Certainly.

.......Actually, just before you do. And this is for the sake of our audience. When you presented your findings to the Royal Institute of Great Britain, on that Monday morning; you were unaware that a reporter, from the Independent, who I cannot name for legal reasons was attending your presentation that morning?

    I was unaware.

    Are you sure Chris?

    Yes.

    Certain?

    Undeniably.

And because of what you said on that Monday morning, provoked the reporter to publish an article the following day?

I was completely unaware of the reporter’s presence. I was told I would be presenting my findings to a small board of scholars, and a few second year students from UCL.

I see. So how many people were in the room with you?

It wasn't a room. It was one of the institute’s demonstration theatres. The theatre could seat over fifty people.

And you say you would be presenting your findings to a small group of scholars, and a few students?

    That's correct, that's what I was told.

Okay, so how many people attended your presentation in the end? In the theatre.....

I'd say around twenty, perhaps twenty five. I'm not sure. Somewhere between twenty and thirty.

And as you looked around, before you presented your findings, you thought the onlookers were all scholars and students?

Yes, I did. I had no idea the reporter was in the room. No one said a reporter of any kind, from any newspaper would be attending my presentation. In fact, I was overwhelmed that so many people DID attend. I just never thought at the time, that one of the attendees was a reporter from the independent.

Okay Chris, as you say. Now I just have one more question for you.

    Sure.

Now in your presentation, did you include anything relating to the night of 26th October?

    No, I didn't.

    And why not Chris?

Well, that's something I can’t explain right now.

Can't explain? We have all evening Chris, you can explain....100 million people would like an explanation.

Yes I know. It's just I didn't include anything relating to the night on the 26th, as it wasn't the right thing to do at the time.

    What happened that night, Chris?

I can't tell you right now.

    Oh you can tell us!

I can’t, just not right now. I will read the presentation first, and then we can go from there. We have all evening, right?

As you wish, it’s your fifteen minutes. Now if you could read the account to us, just as you did when you presenting it to the Institute that Monday morning.

    With pleasure......

........Esteemed colleagues, scholars, and students...ladies and gentleman, welcome. The following account, which I am about to read to you. Is an accurate account of my recent trip to Australia. I was there on behalf of this great institute to study, research and obtain any theory towards the unexplained night-time activity occurring around various parts of Western Australia. Mainly near a small town called Chichester. And you wouldn't believe what happened when I was there. Everything I'm about to say is the truth. I promise you it's the truth. Nothing I'm about to say is superficial or fictitious. Be open minded. Believe in me. Believe in the truth. Believe in my story.

“When I arrived in Australia the western territory was experiencing a fierce heat wave. Clear blue skies day after day. No rain had fell for two weeks prior to my visit. And when I was there no rain fell further more. I arrived in Chichester on the Tuesday."

    The 26th.

    Yes. The 26th of September.

    Go on...

“On the Tuesday. I caught up with my jet lag with a great sleep that night. I awoke early on the Wednesday to a magnificent sunrise. The heat was almost unbearable already. We quickly packed our gear in to the 4x4, and we were off. I was travelling with a local tour guide called Jim, who knew the surrounding area particularly well. His son, Tom, was sat in the front with him. And next to me was a Spanish foreign exchange student studying natural sciences in Australia for a year. His name was Imonal. We drove for two hours out from Chichester to Rundall River National Park. This was our home for the next 12 days. We pitched our camp, had some lunch and went fishing that afternoon.

    Went fishing?

Yes, Jim said the river was just East of where we were. And the fishing was great apparently. He and his son wanted to fish. So we fished. Jim was a man of few words, but when he did say something, you followed suit.

    I see, keep going....

"The fish didn't bite. In fact I wasn't even sure there were any fish in the river at all. I think Jim and his son just enjoyed fishing, even if they didn't catch anything. Before we knew it the sun was setting so we returned back to the camp, had a small bite to eat, and all went to sleep in our separate tents."
"I instinctively remember falling asleep, as well as I do waking up that night. It was the middle of the night. I looked at my digital watch and the time read 3.09am. I wasn't sure why I had awoken. I was still mildly jet lagged, and I thought I would sleep all the way through till the morning, evidently not. My head was resting on the pillow. My eyes were open, and my mind began to play tricks with me, as if a noise I knew so well, didn't bother me in the slightest. I lifted my head from the pillow and sat up straight. It wasn't till then that I realised there was a noise. I thought it to be nothing at all, when it was actually something unfamiliar to me. The noise was clear now, it was a thud sound, similar to that of a football player striking a ball. Although the pitch of the sound was a lot lower. Almost a gentle boom.
