I saw the Punch Brothers live once. They were very entertaining and fun, but in the end, they don't seem to me to really be reaching very far creatively. Their highly varied repertoire in my opinion masks this lack of freshness. Thile of course is a virtuoso, but virtuosos never tickle my fancy for too long. Well, that's what I think but I reserve the right to be wrong of course - I'm glad you found something you enjoy!

By the way, have you seen the thread I started on the Japanese post-rock band called Toe? They're a far cry from Thile and his compatriots, but fascinating in their own way. They do share his element of virtuosity though.

Hehe, it's awesome that you saw them. . . No worries - I was brought up from early childhood with, among other ideas, the point of agreeing to disagree. . . Then of course there's Nietzsche :-)

Um - you might still enjoy a couple of their songs. . . check out their cover of "Reptilia" live on YT. . it's one of the most moving pieces, like, totally sweeps me away. If you have good sound playing equipment of course, that makes a big difference. . It kind of shows Thile's voice in a good way - and the others' instruments, it's rather flawless and to me, very well-done together.

It is a cover, though; in fact I sort of agree with you. . I haven't explored them all that much though really, and I didn't care for their covers of Radio Head very much -

I also really love their performance of "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground," another cover.

I've listened to tons of Thile's work though. . . I enjoy almost all of it immensely. I'm sure I'll post some more of my favorites here on down the road..

The Goat Rodeo sessions are ridiculously awesome. His stuff with Daves' is good.. Anyway.

I will check out Toe pretty soon.

One of my favorites from Goat Rodeo; the lovely Attaboy. . I could listen to this and never grow tired. . . (it's a non-video format, so less bandwidth, in case that matters to people)

    Enjoy!

I just listened to ANW again.. I loved the comments so much .. they nailed it right on the head for me, so beautiful and moving. It's inspired by the Annabel Lee poem I'm fairly sure. I came across the poem again tonight, so. . naturally
