For spiritual delight, observing obedience with full heart is a light. If one offers worships but does not obey whom one worships for, then what is good about it. Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) said the Allah’s Hand is over Jama'at (Community). People do not become Community if they lack quality of obedience. Such focused Communities can bring moral and spiritual reforms.
Obedience plays great role in the success of worldly systems too. Fallen France was uplifted by Napoleon’s success in making people realize to obey the leader.
Holy Quran sets parameter for obedience:
[ch4:v60] O ye who believe! obey Allah and obey Messenger and also authorities among you. And if you differ (with authorities) in any matter then refer it to Allah and Messenger if you (really) believe in Allah and the Last Day. It is an excellent (way) and the best with respect to End.
Thus believers are asked to obey Allah and His Messenger and the authorities. If worldly government interferes in religious matters then believers have to refer to spiritual system.
Various scholars has explained the word ‘authorities’ differently. According to Ahmadiyya Muslim Promised Messiah (a.s.), authorities include worldly governments and spiritually it means Allah’s appointed Imam (spiritual guide) of the era. Spiritual system can work within a worldly government. Ahmadiyya Khalifah obeys laws of land and asks followers to do so.
Current state of Muslims disturbs concerned hearts. Discords, chaos and mayhem at various levels has become decline and fall. If they do not clash with their governments, there will be peace up to large extent. If rights of masses are taken care, things will be much better.
Obedience of physical system brings physical peace.
Obedience of spiritual system (Allah’s made spiritual guide, Khilafat) done with will and happiness brings bliss, luminosity and pleasure of heart and soul. To achieve it, low desires of self are to be left. Companions of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) were full of potentials but in the life time of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) they were fully absorbed in obedience and did not give any importance to their opinions. Back then they did not have any animosity among them. Latter splits are artificial.
Again they have chance. They can get lost glory back if they get united behind one spiritual leader appointed by Allah as promised.
