    moon

The clouds are dappled on the sky tonight
And my daughter thinks I'm a prick.
The moon, oh the f ucking moon
What's a poet to say about the moon?
    He could just cop out.
My daughter thinks I'm a prick.
    Just say she's right.
    The moon's just a satellite
    Envious of the earth
    Tugging at the sea.
    That's awful.
My daughter thinks I'm a prick
Fallen hero staring at the moon
    In an unattended garden
    That's a given.
It's hard to judge on the inside.
But the moon looks bright tonight.
    Twat.

    For those who believe,
    no explanation is necessary.
    For those who do not,
    none will suffice.

Jerry, I usually like your poems. They are very well written and you have definite talent. But I'm not making the connection between the moon and your status as a fallen hero in your daughter's eyes (if it's autobiographical, I'm sorry to hear about it).

Good to see you back here! I was under the impression you'd decided to leave us.

I like this one very much. Your speaker isn't alone in that others (in this case, the daughter) believe that people who love looking at the moon are lunatics. Years ago I leaned over a couch to look at the moon through the window and in the process knocked over my favorite lamp, which smashed into a hundred pieces. Last month we had a "Super Moon," and another one last night -- a "harvest" as well as a Super moon. Fortunately, this time nothing was broken.
