I'm having a good time so far. These kids bring me mocha all day. I read books on my Ipad. I write here when I want a break. What's not to like?
But I assumed (wrongly, apparently) that the breakfast thread was meant to pric k the bubble of over serious or fatuous posts. The only time I ever used it was with that intent.
Mocha, two bagels, Neufchâtel. (If you don't call it cream cheese it can't hurt you).
For breakfast: so far, just coffee. I agree about the cream cheese.
I'm thinking I'll wait for lunch although there still is candy in the bag we bought for trick-or-treaters.

So far I'm not impressed because nobody has talked to me yet... so I'm sulking in a corner, posting the occasional snide comment and hoping some nice person takes pity on me
Hi, livi!
I might not qualify as a "nice" person, but welcome. I was in Indiana a couple days ago and walked past a store with Christmas items in the window. One sign for sale said, "BE NAUGHTY Save Santa the trip". I almost went in and bought it.

Welcome to the site, Livi. I sometimes tell newcomers that it's like a big library where everyone can talk. We are so busy yapping away with our snouts in our books that we often don't notice when the front door opens. Welcome in any case and make yourself at home.
You're welcome. Have you seen my cardigan, love? I can't find anything when my bifocals go missing..
This reminds me of a post from the distant past which was made in all seriousness by one of the younger members in welcoming a newcomer:
'But there is no super seriousness here. We are not actually trying to prove who is better between Faulkner and Hemingway, the thread is just a pretext to spark up some debate about the two authors. We don't take our discussions seriously, for the most part it is all lighthearted banter.
So, unbutton the top two buttons of your shirt, throw away the whiskey on the rocks, and replace it with a beer. Lean back and light up a cigarette. And so do not think of this as a dark oak room full of super serious men in top hats and tail coats. Rather think of this forum as a nice golden farm, full of hillbillies playing songs and discussing Noam Chomsky.'

Weirdly, I've unbuttoned my shirt - such is the power that Emil has over some of us.
