IN THE ELEVATOR

You know, you can grow out of your shame,
You can grow out of your pain,
And everything else in the past.
It’s possible one day you’ll be in the elevator alone,
With nothing to think about,
And suddenly you’ll realize that you have changed.
And you have not tried or cried
Or gone to ashrams or sat in meditative equipoise,
You’ve simply grown out of it
As one grows out of old clothes.
